 Kevin wins Hugo Smith 5K

What a great evening for the club at the Hugo Smith 5K last Friday evening (May 8th) in Ferbane.  41 from the club joined a field of 343 runners took part as Ferbane AC hosted Round 4 of the 2026 Healthy Offaly 5K Series in ideal running conditions.

The race was run over an undulating loop, with testing hills in the first 3k but nevertheless there were some super times posted.

The event, which marked the first Friday evening fixture of this year’s series, proved very popular and attracted a strong turnout from clubs across the county and beyond.

Tullamore Harriers had a very successful outing with Kevin Minnock taking the win in 15.24, Killian Nolan in 3rd place overall, Jonathan Dunne 5th and Barry Mooney 6th.

There was further success in the age categories. Jonathan Dunne claimed the Men’s O45 title, while Mick O’Brien was first in the Men’s O50 category. For the ladies, Niamh McEnhill took 1st place in the O40 category and Mary Daly won the O60 category.

Tullamore Harriers also had a clean sweep in the team competitions. The women’s team of Evelyn Herlihy, Rachel Henry, Niamh McEnhill and Charlotte Abbott took first place in the ladies’ standings, while the men’s team of Kevin Minnock, Killian Nolan, Jonathan Dunne and Barry Mooney claimed top honours in the men’s team placing.

Well done to Ferbane on an excellent race and to all who lined out for the club.

South Leinster Schools Track & Field Championships

Several members of the Tullamore Harriers juvenile squad made their way to the SETU campus in Carlow on Thursday the 7th of May, to compete in Day 2 of the South Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships. Representing Killina Presentation Secondary School, Coláiste Iosagáin, Sacred Heart Secondary School, Coláiste Naomh Cormac, Tullamore College and Coláiste Choilm they all acquitted themselves well. All those competing had a good time at the event and below are the middle-distance athletes who progressed on to the Leinster Schools final.

From the Sprint group, Fayth Byrne and Ellie Finlay also competed. In the U16 200m, Fayth won her heat while Ellie placed second. Both advanced to the final, Ellie came 5th and Fayth 2nd taking her first school's medal and a qualification to the Leinster Schools final in Tullamore Harriers stadium on Wednesday 20th May. Best of luck to all athletes in the final.

European selection for Michael.

Congratulations to Michael Murphy on his selection for the European 10,000m Cup. Michael will make his senior international debut for Ireland as he joins six women and four men who will compete in the Irish vest at the Centro Sportivo on Saturday May 23rd in La Spezia Italy.
