Leinster medals for Tullamore Harriers
On Saturday, May 2nd, over the May Bank Holiday weekend, a contingent from Tullamore Harriers travelled to Gowran, Co. Kilkenny for the Leinster Novice and Masters Road Race Championships. As has been the tradition for many years, Gowran AC hosted this well-regarded event.
The course in Gowran consists of a 1,500m loop, with the novice and masters’ women covering two laps (3km), while the men faced four laps (6km). The course is a testing one, beginning with a downhill stretch before rising steadily on a long climb back to the start.
The Tullamore women got the day off to a strong start in the Masters race, finishing with an impressive haul of both individual and team medals.

Mary Daly - gold in the O60 category
Olive Mannion - silver in the O60 category
Rita Daly Ravenhill - silver in the O55 category
Karen Nolan -bronze in the O50 category
Charlotte Abbott was the club’s first finisher in the master race, placing 8th in a highly competitive O40 category. The O50 team -Karen Nolan, Rita Daly Ravenhill, and Mary Galvin secured silver county team medals.
Attention then turned to the Masters Men’s 6km race, where four Tullamore Harriers athletes lined out. Nigel Cunningham had a great run to finish in 12th place. He was followed by Richie Faulkner, Brendan Abbott, and Alan Mitchell, whose combined efforts secured double team honours - silver club and bronze county medals.
In the final race of the day, the Novice Men’s 6km event, Darragh Carroll was the sole representative for the club. He ran a determined race to finish in a commendable 18th place.

Duffy sets Irish Under 18 Steeplechase record
Ally Duffy travelled to Milan, Italy today to compete in the 2000m Steeplechase at the Centro di Atletica, Busto Arsizio in the ESET WMD-Night track and field meet. Ally ran a canny race sitting back over the first few laps and conserving her energy. The young Moate woman went with her plan to surge down the back straight of the last lap and caught several runners in the final stages. Her time of 6:45.00 is ten seconds inside the time Athletics Ireland have set for the European Athletics U18 Championships which will also be held on Italian soil in Rieti in July.
Ally’s winning time is also over three seconds faster than the previous best by an Irish Under 18 athlete. Before Ally’s super run Lucy Cawley from Sligo had held the record with a time of 6.48.84.
Dublin City Half Marathon
The Dublin City Half Marathon saw over 12,000 participants take to the streets of the capital, and the club was represented by two athletes, Mick Murphy and Sara McLaughlin.
Winning the men’s race was Seán Tobin of Clonmel AC, while Sorcha Nic Dhomhnaill from West Limerick AC was 1st lady winner.
Mick had a great run, finishing well under the 90-minute mark in 1:26:38.
Sara also had a solid outing, crossing the line in 2:12:50.
VS Open Track & Field Meet
Aaron Keane was in action in the 200m at the VS Open Track & Field Meet in Oordegem, Belgium on Friday, May 1st, where he made an excellent return to competition and produced a superb performance. Aaron clocked 21.48 seconds which was just 0.03 seconds shy of his personal best.
Regeneron Great Limerick Run.
Great performances by Michael Brennan and Liam Byrne at the Limerick Marathon on Sunday 3rd of May. Michael placed 16th overall with a time of 2.39 and Liam too had a super run to take 2nd place in the O55 age group in 3.02.
Gary Dwyer competed in the half marathon clocking 1.55
London Marathon
History was made at this year’s London Marathon as Sabastian Sawe broke the world marathon record with an incredible time of 1:59:30 on Sunday 26th of April.
Among the 59,000 participants, competing in this prestigious event, Tullamore Harriers was proudly represented by Eoin Brennan and Jonathan Dunne.
Running in very warm humid conditions both produced superb runs:
Eoin finished in an impressive 2:45:35 and
Jonathan followed closely with 2:47:00
Juvenile Membership
Tullamore Harriers it is not accepting new juvenile members of primary school age at present. However, boys and girls of post-primary school age are welcome to apply for membership.
