Tullamore Harriers report – 17th May 2026

National Bronze for Rita

Well done to Rita Daly Ravenhill who, along with Una Mullen, represented the club at the National 5K on Saturday last, the 16th of May. The race was incorporated into the Irish Runner 5K event which is part of the Irish Runner Series and all races are held in the Phoenix Park.

Competing in the O55 category, Rita secured a bronze medal in a time of 21:36. Una finished 8th in the same category in 23:12.

 

South Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships

The South Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships concluded on May 13th, with representation from both the middle distance and sprint groups of Tullamore Harriers.

While it was cool and there were strong winds, the sun was shining on those competing at the SETU campus in Carlow. There were some fantastic performances by athletes representing Killina Presentation School, Coláiste Iosagáin, Newbridge College, Sacred Heart Secondary School, Coláiste Naomh Cormac, Tullamore College and Coláiste Choilm. The Sprint Group was also represented, and they too performed well qualifying from their respective heats to make finals.  

The highlights included:
Alisha Maher - Gold -Senior Girls 100m and Bronze -Senior Girls 200m
Lucy Deverell - Silver -Senior Long Jump
Teagan Delaney - 2nd in heat and 6th in Senior Girls 200m final.
Chloe McGowan - 2nd in heat and 6th in Intermediate Girls 100m final.
Róisín Cotter - 3rd in Intermediate Girls 200m heat and 5th in Long Jump.
Samia Akbar - 2nd in heat and 6th in Intermediate Girls 200m final.
Amy Walsh - strong performance in High Jump.
Martha Keohane - strong performance in the 800m.
In the South Connacht Schools Championships, Lucy Champ, representing Moate Community School, won the Senior Girls 200m and finished 2nd in the 100m. She was on the winning Senior Girls 4x100m relay team. Ally Duffy was also part of the winning relay squad.

 

Super performances at the Ashling Murphy 4 Mile

Tullamore Harriers Athletic Club was very well represented at the 2026 Ashling Murphy Race earlier this morning, with 72 athletes taking part in their local town.

Race winners were Sean Tobin of Clonmel Athletic Club and Hannah Steede of Leevale Athletic Club - both successfully defending their titles from last year.

Starting and finishing in the centre of Tullamore, this race not only has a very special meaning to so many people, but the incredible support along the route also adds hugely to the occasion.

Kevin Minnock continued his great form when he crossed the line with a very deserving smile to the cheers of the spectators, dipping under the 20-minute mark to take 2nd place in 19:58. Clubmate Cian Law secured 3rd place, while Paul Mitchell, returning from injury, had a fantastic run to finish 4th overall.

The race also incorporated the Offaly 4 Mile Road Championships, (Offaly Championship results to follow).

It also marked Round 1 of the Offaly Endurance Series and race 3 in the Peugeot Series.

In the age categories, Evelyn Herlihy and Mary Galvin were 1st in the O45 and O60 categories respectively, while Barry Minnock claimed victory in the O50 category.

The bonus team prize, sponsored by Peugeot, was also reclaimed by Tullamore Harriers. Congratulations to: Kevin Minnock, Paul Mitchell, Cian Law, Evelyn Herlihy, Rachel Henry and Rachel Donegan.

Another victory for Tullamore Harriers was in the Offaly Endurance Team placing - The lady’s team of Rachel Donegan, Evelyn Herlihy, Rachel Henry and Charlotte Abbott scored top team points and the Tullamore men - Kevin Minnock, Cian Law, Paul Mitchell and Barry Minnock also took the team win.

Belfast Classic

The 2026 Belfast Classic took place on 9th May at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast as part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger series.

Delphi Half Marathon

Well done to Darren Ghee who competed in the Delphi Half Marathon in Co Mayo, on Saturday 16th May. Taking in a most picturesque route, with the race starting in Glenkeen Farm, Mayo and finished in Leenane, Connemara. Darren completed the 13.1 miles in 1.51.40
