About Us

The history, records and driving force behind our great Club.

The club has more than 500 active members. The stadium has hosted International Competitions as well as National, Provincial and Local Championships for NACA, schools and many other organisations. It is a favorite place for athletes from all over the country due to its excellent facilities.

Many sporting events are held at the stadium every year. The annual Tullamore Half Marathon, which revolves around the Quinlan Cup and the Phyllis Delaney Cup, is often considered one of the best half marathons held in Ireland.

Club Records

Over the years, Tullamore Harriers members have achieved numerous triumphs and set impressive records, both nationally and internationally. The table below highlights the athletic records currently held by our members, including male and female achievements in both indoor and outdoor events.

Club History

Tullamore Harriers was founded on the night of November 13th, 1953, when nine young men gathered beneath a streetlight on the main street of Tullamore. From that modest beginning, they moved to Clarke’s Barber Shop, where the club’s first committee was formally elected.

It is unlikely that even the most visionary among them could have foreseen the remarkable growth and success the club would experience in the decades to come.

John Dowling was elected as the first Chairman—he would later go on to serve as President of the G.A.A. The other founding members were Paddy Larkin (RIP), Noel Gowran (RIP), Mick McDermott (RIP), Brendan McDermott (RIP), Noel Houlihan (RIP), Andrew Lowbridge (RIP), Billy Dowling (RIP), and Larry Fox (RIP).

2025 Committee

These are the driving force behind our great club. The listed members dedicate a great deal of time to making Tullamore Harriers a welcoming and inclusive place for everyone. The committee of 2025 act as a single entity, driving towards a common goal. Teamwork is integral to the functioning of our club.
