Tullamore Harriers report – 14th September 2026

Rock Solid Performance by Cusack in Down

A fantastic performance from Elise Cusack, representing Ireland at the Mountain Running Championships between teams from Wales, Scotland, England and Ireland in the beautiful Mourne Mountains in Newcastle, County Down on Saturday the 12th of September. Elise acquitted herself well over the challenging 8km, 274m ascent course, and finished 15th girl and an excellent 3rd scorer for the Irish team. This is Elise’s second time pulling on an Irish vest having competed earlier this year in Italy.

Michael wins the Neville 10.

The annual Neville 10 Mile Race took place on Sunday last (13th September), once again bringing together Tullamore Harriers athletes for one of the club’s special tribute events, held in honour of some of its greatest-ever runners.

The race is dedicated to the memory of Mick Neville, a native of Lynally, and one of the outstanding Irish distance runners of his generation. A member of Tullamore Harriers from the early 1950s, Mick went on to enjoy an exceptional international career during the 1960s, recording remarkable times, breaking Irish and European records and competing against some of the leading athletes in the world.

Despite his considerable talent and achievements, Mick was known for his quiet and modest nature, preferring to let his performances on the track and road speak for themselves. His contribution to Tullamore Harriers and to Irish athletics has left a lasting legacy, and the annual 10-mile race provides a fitting way for the club to remember and celebrate that legacy.

The race itself is run in a handicap format. Athletes began with three laps of the Harriers tartan track before setting off at staggered times according to their given handicap. The format creates an exciting chase, with runners attempting to catch those ahead of them while also holding off the athletes starting behind.

From the club grounds, the route headed out the Charleville Road towards Mucklagh, passing close to Mick’s homeplace in Lynally before turning at Kilsaran. The runners then returned towards Tullamore Harriers, where a final lap of the track awaited them before the finish. The handicap format always ensures plenty of curiosity and excitement to see who will be first to arrive into the club grounds with just 500m remaining.

On this occasion it was Michael Kinsella who was first across the line with a gun to tape run, taking the Neville 10 win for 2026.

Fastest man was Jonathan Dunne and Fastest lady was Sarah Flanagan who clocked 57.50 and 1.14.01 respectively.

2nd was Garry Dwyer and 3rd was Niamh McEnhill. 4th finisher was Shane McGuinness with Martina Lydon 5th and Rachel Henry in 6th.

Club Chairman Adrian Curley welcomed the Neville family: his brother Vin Neville, his sister Rita Daly and nephew Greg Neville and took the opportunity to reflect on Mick’s extraordinary achievements and the lasting influence he has had on generations of athletes.

The successful running of the event was once again down to the work of the club’s volunteers and officials. Special thanks go to Competition Secretary Anna Hyland, Club Handicapper John Cronin, Timekeeper Liam Hennessy and Club Secretary Sharon Daly, and to all the marshals and officials who gave their time to ensure the race ran smoothly.

Dingle Full & Half Marathon

Tullamore Harriers was represented by two athletes at the recent Dingle Full and Half Marathon, held on the 5th August.

The famously hilly courses take runners through the stunning Dingle Peninsula, with breathtaking scenery hopefully providing a little distraction from the challenging climbs

Seamus Hoey took on the full marathon, completing the challenging course in a very solid 3:47. This was Seamus’s second time tackling the Dingle Marathon, and it forms an important part of his preparation for the Dublin Marathon in a few weeks’ time.

Matt Corcoran tackled the half marathon and put in a great effort to cross the finish line in 2:18.

Well done to both Seamus and Matt on a great day out in Dingle, and best of luck to Seamus as his Dublin Marathon preparations continue.

RUN to COFFEE.

Hosted by Tullamore Harriers AC, the new RUN to COFFEE running group is starting in Tullamore on Sunday the 20th of September at 8.30am.

- Are you running on your own or with a friend and would like to meet more like-minded people?

- Are you curious to see if you could become a better runner?

- Would you like to build up to a longer distance?

- Are you simply interested in getting out, making new friends - while stepping it out together?

Or maybe your vision of eventually finishing a 5K, 10k or even having a mad fagarie of doing a marathon!! Whatever your goal, this could be just what you need to get started. Simply turn up at the Old Warehouse on Sunday next. There’s no need to register, no need to pre-book and no need to wonder if you’re “good enough”.

Just lace up and turn up on Sunday, 20th September.

Members of Tullamore Harriers AC will be there to guide and encourage you along the way, with plenty of advice, support and, of course, a bit of banter as we clock up the kilometres. We will have support along the way to aim for 6K, 8K, 10K or longer.

And then comes the important part… - followed by COFFEE!!

Come along, give it a go and see where it takes you.
