INTERNATIONAL SILVER FOR CURLEY

The British & Irish Masters International Cross Country was held in Stormont last Saturday and a great days racing was followed by a gala dinner in the Europa Hotel. All races were of a very high standard with a large number of participants. In the Ladies 6k Pauline Curley finished strong to take the silver medal just 8 seconds behind the winner Wendy Nichols. The English runner took off from the gun and established a good lead with Curley, England’s Kate Ramsey and Ireland’s Niamh O’Sullivan in the chasing group. This group worked well together in closing the gap on Nichols but could not reel her in with Curley opening up a gap on Ramsay and O’Sullivan in the closing stages. Nichols crossed the finish line in 22.54 with Curley second in 23.02, Ramsey third in 23.13 and O’Sullivan running 23.21 for fourth place. Pauline also led the Irish over 35 team to the silver medals. Also over 6k Jim Langan ran 32.28 for 19th place and was 4th scorer on the Irish over 65 team which took the bronze medals. In the over 50 category Johnny Feery was 28th in 32.41 for 8k and 6th scorer on the Irish team also taking bronze medals. Also over 8k John Todd was 15th in 33.24 and 3rd scorer on the Irish team winning bronze medals. Overall these were great performances by our athletes with the added bonus of taking home medals. Congratulations to all.
