European Selection for Curley
Athletes from all parts of the country travelled to the Curragh Camp in Kildare last Sunday for the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships. This event is one of the major competitions of the year with a high finishing position leading to selection on the Irish teams for the European Cross Country to be held in Toro Spain on 9th December. In the Ladies 8k Pauline Curley put in a magnificent run to finish in 4th place and gain a place on the Irish team for the Europeans. From the start Curley settled into the chasing group as Fionnuala Britton and Deirdre Byrne set the early pace.

At the end of the second lap going into the third lap Curley upped the pace and was soon clear in 4th place. Curley maintained her pace over the closing lap and was clearly delighted with her 4th place (29.58) finish behind Linda Byrne. It was a great day for the Offaly ladies as they took the silver medals (98 points) with Edel Mooney 13th 31.12,Pauline Lambe 38th 34.37,Maire-Triona Keane 43rd 35.46, Deirdre Lambe 54th 37.23 and Mary Daly 56th 38.24 behind Dublin (23 points) and Cork (112 points) in 3rd place. In the men’s race over 10k the Offaly lads also took home medals as 3rd place finishers in grade B on 435 points and 8th team overall. Barry Minnock was top finisher in 39th place 34.52, John Harkin 67th 36.58, Catch Grennan 71st 37.34, Johnny Feery 85th 39.56, John O’Connell 86th 40.18 and Luke Mitchell 87th 40.19. Galway on 306 points were the grade B winners with Kilkenny second on 333 points.

Club Winter League
The first round of the Club Winter League took place last Tuesday night with a 3k held over the track and tarmac circuit. From the start Catch Grennan led out the field and he quickly established a gap leading all the way to the finish line. Behind John Donegan, John Harkin and Jody O’Reilly gave chase but the battle was always for second place with Donegan gaining the upper hand over the closing stages of the race. With vital team points up for grabs all the participants were running for a good finishing position. As the team result is very close captains Ronan Duffy, Mike Murphy and Luke Mitchell will be working hard to get all team members to the starting line for the next round.

Circuit training led by Adrian Brennan every Wednesday at 7pm.
A reminder to all club athletes training on the roads, with the arrival of the dark evenings it is important to be seen on our busy roads. So remember to light up, wear a reflective vest or belt and flashing armbands.
