AROUND THE HOUSES WIN FOR MICK MURPHY
The 50th running of the “Around the Houses” for the Midnight Shield took place at 12 noon on New Years Eve with a large group of athletes and spectators turning out for this special event. Barry Minnock led the race from the start and covered the 4,700 metres in 14.51 well ahead of Catch Grennan in 15.16 with Alan O’Keeffe next in 15.24. After the handicapper adjusted the times, Mick Murphy was declared the winner by 12 seconds from Luke Mitchell. Afterwards there was a presentation of medallions to past winners and it was great to see so many previous winners present on the day. GRAND NATIONAL WIN FOR UNA MULLEN
The 43rd annual Club Grand National over 5,060 metres was held on Tuesday 18th December over the usual 4-lap course around Spollenstown. First off in this handicap event were Mary Walsh, Cene Murphy and Mick Hayden with the rest of the athletes off at various times. As the laps went by Una Mullen took the lead and raced away to win by 42 seconds. Sharon Leonard ran a very steady race to take second place ahead of Jim Langan and Jim Dolan. Brendan Kennedy and Adrian Martin raced well for 5th and 6th place. Fastest time on the night was 16.27 by Catch Grennan.

GOAL MILE
A huge number of people took to the track on Christmas morning for the annual Goal Mile, in the competitive mile Barry Minnock ran 4.34 with John Scanlon second in 4.54. Many thanks to all those who took part and raised much-needed funds for Goal projects around the world.

RACE ROUND UP
Jim Langan made it five in a row at the Farrenfore Co Kerry 4 mile road race on St Stephen’s Day in winning the over 60 section in 31.08. Closer to home a group travelled to Newtownforbes Co Longford for the annual St Stephen’s Day 5k, Pauline Curley was the first lady and set a new course record of 16.56 with Catch Grennan running 16.24 for 3rd place. John Todd took part in the BHAA 10K on December 15th in Marley Park, Rathfarnham and was 1st over 55 in 39.25, on New Years Day John lined out for the Tommy Brennan 5k in the Phoenix Park but no results are available.

Saturday 16th February, AAI Masters Indoor Championships, Nenagh.
Training : Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, Sunday morning at 8.30am (except on a race day) all are welcome.
Circuit training led by Adrian Brennan every Wednesday at 7pm.
