Tullamore athletes compete in London Indoor Games
Seven athletes from Tullamore Harriers travelled to Lee Valley athletics centre to compete in the London Indoor Games last weekend. Darragh Hanlon was first into action. He competed in the junior men’s shot where he finished in 4thh position with a best throw of 11.70m.
Fearghus Hannon competed in the Junior men’s 400m and finished 2nd in his race and 2nd junior overall in a time of 49.87. Stephen Kelly, making his debut at the 400m distance won his race in a very creditable time of 52.19. Gordon Kennedy, running in the senior men’s 400m finished 3rd in his race in a time of 49.70. Alan Whelan, also running in the senior men’s 400m finished 4th in his race in a time of 51.41 and Ray Lennon won his 400m race in a time of 54.17.
Eoin Hannon, competing in the senior men’s long Jump, had problems with the take off board, fouling four of his jumps, but managed 4th place overall with a jump of 6.96m. He subsequently competed in the 60m where he won his race in a time of 7.14. Alan Whelan also competed in the 60m and finished in 2nd place in his race in a new PB of 7.19. Creditable performances from the athletes and a great opportunity for them to gain the experience of competing at a big international meeting.
Walsh scores treble in Leinster Indoors
Mary Walsh was in good form in Nenagh last Sunday when competing in the Leinster Masters Indoor Championships. Her most impressive win came in the W6 200 metres where she raced to gold in a championship best time of 36.55.Mary also excelled in winning the 400 metrers in 85.19 and also the 800 metres in a time of 3.23.1.
Mick Fleming showed his best form in a few years when winning the V2 200 metres in 26.75 and claimed third place in the 400 metres in 58.98. Ger Hensey had a good win in the M2 60 metres in a championship best time of 7.45. Another man to set a championship record was Paddy Dolan in the M6 400 metres where he sped to victory in a time of 70.48.
Larry Rigney won the M5 3000 metre walk in a time of 19.00.5 while Tom Feighery was the winner of the M5 35lbs weight for distance with a throw of 6.38 metres. Tom also took second place in the 60 metres in 9.82 seconds.
In the Senior championships Joseph Mulligan took third place in the shot putt with a throw of 10.04 metres and followed up with a fourth placing in the 56 lbs for distance with 5.24 metres.

John Todd continued on the comeback trail when he competed in Dublin last Saturday week in the Eircom Business Houses 5 mile cross country race. John finished 86th overall and 2nd over 55 in a time of 33.23.
Jim Langan competed in the Faranfore 4 mile road race in Kerry last Sunday where he placed 39th out of a field of 105 and took first place in the over 65 category in a time of 30.18 on a tough hilly course.

March 7th : Inter Club Cross Country Championships, Phoenix Park.
Training: Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, Sunday morning at 8.30am Except on a race day. New members always welcome.
With the dark evenings now here it is important to be seen on the roads so reflective gear must be worn while training on the roads
