Fahey wins Ballinagar 5 miles
Last Sunday on a bright sunny morning runners and walkers took part in the annual five mile road race in Ballinagar. The race was run in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Austin Dempsey of Offaly MS spoke eloquently about the disease and expressed his belief that a cure for Multiple Sclerosis is now being talked about as a realistic prospect in the future. Declan Fahey set off at a fast pace and fellow Harrier Noel Kelly was the only runner to stay with him with Noel Marum and John Donegan in third and fourth respectively. Fahey and Kelly ran together for four miles but then as they came to the last hill Fahey made his move and got a lead which he maintained to the finish to win by sixty metres from Kelly with Marum third and John Donegan fourth.
