Dunshaughlin road race.
Two of our harriers athletes competed in the 31st annual dunshaulghlin 10k road race on sat 26th of june. Over 500 athletes took part in this very popular race. Richie galvin who has recently joined the club showed his dedicated training is paying off and ran a great race to finish 37th overall in a time of 35.56min. Liz cuskelly also competed and finished 7 lady home in a time of 38.53min. She was 3rd o35yrs.
National Junior & U23 championships
There were several tullamore harriers athletes in action in the national junior & u23 championships at the weekend. Darragh hanlon was our sole medal winner in the junior championship. Darragh first event was the shot where he finished in 4th place with a throw of 12.96m. He then went on to compete in the discus where he finished with a silver medal with a fine throw of 42.83m. Kelly cunningham finished in 6th place in the ladies junior discus with a fine throw of 28.95m. Fearghus hannon and stephen kelly competed in the junior 400m. Stephen finished in 5th place in his heat in a time of 51.8 and unfortunately did not get through to the final. Fearghus won his heat convincingly, but disaster struck in the final when, while leading the race at the 300m mark, he crashed out with a hamstring injury.
Larry o reilly was in action early in the u23 long jump where he finished a creditable 4th with a jump of 6.27m, a new pb. Alan whelan competed in the u23 100m, finishing 5th in his heat in a time of 11.30. Alan then went on to compete in the 400m and finshed in 2nd in his heat in a seasons best time of 50.3. Alan ran a great final to finish in 4th place in a time of 49.82, his 2nd fastest ever. Joe mulligan was our sole medal winner in the u23 championship when he won the bronze medal in the 35lb weight for distance with a fine throw of 7.49m, a new pb.
Belgium international athletics
Gordon kennedy continued on his winning ways when he easily won the 400m at an international meeting in belgium at the weekend. Gordon’s time of 47.04, while excellent, was outside the hoped time for european championship qualifying standard, but he won the race by 20m and with the right opposition to put pressure on him in race he will achieve the time.
Enniscorthy half marathon
Last sunday saw the running of 500 athletes in the enniscorthy half marathon. Pauline curley competed in a very competitive ladies field and was 4th lady home in a time of 1.19.43. Eddie garry was close on her heels in a time of 1.19.46 and was 20th athlete overall.
Dublin T&F graded series.
Catch grennan and maurice fitzgerald and alan whelan competed in the 5th round of the dublin athletics graded series in irishtown on wednesday 17th june. In the 1500m , catch ran 4.16.36. And maurice ran 4.50.03. Alan ran in the 200m event in a time of 23.41
Triathlon news.
The hell of the west triathlon was on sat 26th june in kilkee and 3 club members competed in whats known to be one of the most challenging events. Consisting of 1500m swim, 45k cycly and 10k run colm colohan was first of the trio in a time of 2.33.34 (s26.28, c1.21145, r43.39). Mary daly 6th female home in a time of 2.36.22 (s29.55, c1.18.08, r46.40). Brendan kennedy finished in a time of 3.10.27 (s39.09, c1.37.50, r49.14)

Training; tues and thurs at 6.30pm. Sunday morning at 8.30am except race day.
New members always welcome. Jogger/beginner next session wednesday 30th june at 7pm. Open to all standards of runners.
