Hannon Brothers strike double National Gold.
At the National Junior and Under 23 National Championships in the Tullamore Harriers stadium on Sunday Fearghus and Eoin Hannon each won a title. Early in the day, Fearghus ran a controlled race in the 400m Junior Men heats to qualify for the final. Drawn in lane 7 in the most eagerly awaited final of the day, Fearghus ran a strong first 300m and really powered up the home straight to complete an indoor 200m / outdoor 400m National Junior double in a new pb of 48.95. Fearghus had set a new pb of 48.96 earlier in the week in Italy. Later on in the evening came the great news that Fearghus had been selected on the Irish 4 X 400m relay team to compete in the European Junior Championship in Serbia in July.
In the Under 23 mens Long Jump Eoin Hannon was crowned champion with a best performance of 7.30m. This performance backed up the national ranking lead of 7.31m which he achieved in Italy earlier in the week. Eoin also had a marginal break in the fifth round which was in the region of 7.50m.
Darragh Hanlon finished second in the 35lbs event (8.21m) and also was sixth in the discus event (36.44m) at the Junior Mens championships. Also in the 35lbs Junior Mens event Joe Mulligan was fourth with 6.73m. In the Junior Womens Long Jump, Eimer Brennan had a fine sixth place with 4.86m. |
