SUN SHINES ON LEAGUE FINALS
The National Track and Field League Finals were held in Tullamore in beautiful sunny conditions last Sunday. Both the Men’s team in the Premier Division and the Women’s team in Division one faced a difficult task in getting in the medals. The women’s team put in a strong fight finishing in fifth place just 6 points outside third place. Our only event winner was Georgina Tuohey in the walk, AnnMarie Larkin-McGlynn took second place in the 400 and 800, Lisa Dolan was third in the Hammer while Emer and Aine Brennan between them took part in seven events. The men faced strong competition in the Premier Division and with number of athletics out due to injury were always under pressure in the points table but as usual everybody gave their best on the day. Gordon Kennedy ran his fastest times in recent years in the 100 and 200 to win both events but was disqualified in the 100 for false starting. Babu Matthew was third in the 56lb for distance and Catch Grennan ran a PB in the 800.

NEWS ROUND UP
At the Dublin Graded Track & Field Championships on 9th July Catch Grennan finished 6th in 2.03.24. John Todd has been out of action for a number of weeks suffering with shinsplints on his right leg, but made a comeback at the Dublin City Council 5k on Wednesday July 16th. The race was held in Ringsend Stadium and adjoining park with John finishing 40th overall in 18.19. At the Morton Memorial Meeting in Santry on Friday 25th Gordon Kennedy finished 6th in the 400 in 46.79, the race was won by Greg Nixon USA in 45.61.
Fixtures :
Friday 1st August, Daingean 5k.
Saturday 9th August, National Masters Track & Field Championships, Tullamore.
Training : Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, Sunday morning at 8.30am (except on a race day) all are welcome.
