Cuskelly and Kelly Win Leinster Titles

The Leinster Novice and Masters Cross Country were held in Adamstown, Co. Wexford last Sunday. Liz Cuskelly was our only runner in the Masters Womens race run over 3000 metres. Liz was always to the head of the field and pulled away to record a great victory by a margin of fifty metres from the very experienced Mary Hanley from the Na Fianna club.

Next it was the turn of our Masters Men who had to race over 6000 metres. Here we had high hopes especially from reigning champion Noel Kelly and he certainly did not disappoint as he romped to victory , winning by a margin of nineteen seconds. Catch Grennan finished in 10th place closely followed by John Harkin in 11th. Jody O’Reilly in 30th place completed the scoring for the team who took second place in the club and county competition.
Johnny Feery had a great run to finish in 25th place as did George Webb in 26th. Martin Carroll came in just behind these two in 27th position and these three easily won the over 50 Leinster club title and also the county honours for Offaly.

Lifestyle Sports Adidas Dublin Marathon.
The 30th running of the Dublin City Marathon took place last Monday in perfect conditions for running. The race for first Irish woman home was always going to be a tight affair with close friends and running foes Annette Kealy and Tullamore’s Pauline Curley both battling to be first over the finish line.Raheny Shamrock’s athlete Kealy had a lead of twenty two seconds over Curley at the half way mark but Pauline worked her way back and was level with Kealy at the 30k point. The pair ran together for and were still together with two miles to go but it was Kealy of who had the edge in the finish in a time of 2.45.43 followed by Pauline in 2.46.13.

The next Tullamore athlete to finish was Mick Murphy in a time of 2.53.27. Mick was a bit disappointed with this but no doubt he will bounce back and have a good cross country season. Barry Lambe ran his usual steady race to record a good time of 2.55.22. Liam Byrne improved greatly on his personal best with a time of 3.31.32. Larry Rigney was running his 80th marathon, a remarkable achievement and he was pleased with his time of 4.03.33.
