Harriers Win National Indoor 4 x 400 Metre Relay

Tullamore Harriers senior 4 x 400m relay team had a brilliant win at the national senior inter club relay finals at Nenagh Indoor Track last Saturday.   The Harriers team Fearghus Hannon, Ray Lennon, Alan Whelan and Gordon Kennedy had to fight off a determined challenge from Leevale Club before emerging victorious in a time of 3.26.69, just 2 seconds outside the national record.  Fearghus Hannon led out the team on the first leg and with a display of strong running handed over the baton to Alan Whelan in the lead.  Alan ran superbly to maintain the lead and passed the baton to third runner Ray Lennon who ran very strongly and despite the efforts of Leevale in second place handed over to final runner Gordon Kennedy in first position.  Gordon had to see off a strong challenge from the final Leevale runner before crossing the finish line in first place to take the gold medal by a margin of eight meters. Well done to all, a great result for the club

National Masters Indoors
Ger Hensey rolled back the years with an incredible display of sprinting when winning three gold medals at the National Masters Indoors at Nenagh on Sunday. Ger’s talent and dedication to training culminated in him dominating the over 40 sprint events. Ger won the 60 metres in a national age group record of 7.10 seconds and followed it up with a win in the 200 metres in a time of 24.92. He also won the 400 metres in an impressive time of 55.50.

Mary Walsh also won three gold medals in the V 6 category with victories in the 200 metres (37.4 ), 400 metres (87.7 ) and the 800 metres in a time of 3.20.2. Jim Langan won a gold medal in the over 65 3000 metres in an impressive time of 12.08.08 and was second in the 800 metres (2.56.33 ) and the 1500 metres (6.07 ). Paddy Dolan showed good form when winning the 400 metres in the over 60 category (71.20 ) and followed it up with third in the 200metres ( 31.2 ) and a fourth place in the 60 metres.

Pauline Curley had her first run on the track for a while and duly won the V 2 category 3000 metres in 10.33. Larry Rigney had a good win in the 3000 metre walk while Johnny Feery took third place in the 3000 metres in a time of 10.10.

Antrim International Cross Country
Liz Cuskelly was a member of the Leinster team that took part in the Antrim International cross country race last Saturday. In a high class race won by Mary Cullen, Liz aquitted herself well and fnished in 36th place in a time of 22.11. Ferbane athlete Paul Buckley had a great run to finish in 36th place in the men’s race. Liam Brady showed just what an exciting prospect he is by finishing in a magnificent fourth place in the Men’s under 20 race.

February 6th and 7th : Woodies DIY Senior Indoor Championships, Odyssey Arena, Belfast.
February 14th : Leinster Senior Cross Country Championships, Kilmacow, Kilkenny.
February 21st : National Intermediate and Masters Cross Country Championships, Lough Key, Boyle, Co. Roscommon.
March 7th : Inter Club Cross Country Championships, Phoenix Park.

Training: Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, Sunday morning at 8.30am Except on a race day. New members always welcome.

With the dark evenings now here it is important to be seen on the roads so reflective gear must be worn while training on the roads
