National Masters Gold for Tullamore Athletes.
The second day of a very busy weekend for athletics in Tullamore saw the staging of the Masters Track and Field championships in the Tullamore Harriers stadium last Sunday week. Mary Walsh shows no sign of slowing down and recorded a hat trick of wins in the 200 metres in 36.51, 400 metres in 85.35 and the 800 metres which she won in a time of 3.20.53.
Liz Cuskelly had a great double win in the 1500 metres in a time of 5.03.31 and the 3000 metres where she clocked 10.46.95. Cormac Troy unleashed a decisive kick in the last two hundred metres to claim the V2 1500 metre title in 4.19.12 while Jim Langan won the V7 1500 metres in a time of 6.18.70. Jim also won the silver medal in the 800 metres in 2.52.63.
Other silver medal winners on the day were Catch Grennan who was second in the 800 metres in a fast 2.00.93, Tom Rafferty in the Javelin with 45.67, Tom Feighery in the V5 100 metres (15.36), Micheal Flynn in the V5 high jump (1.35) and John Harkin in the V2 5000 metres (16.26.49). Mick Fleming finished in third place in the V3 100 metres in 12.85. Paddy Dolan finished in third place in the V6 400 metres in a fast time of 69.14.

Nenagh Triathlon club ran a 4 mile road race in Nenagh last Friday evening and Brendan Abbot ran well to finish 12th overall and 2nd over 45 out of 87 runners in a time of 23.51. Just two places behind in 14th place was Richie Faulkner, clocking 24.12.
Declan Fahey competed against 5,000 runners in the Frank Duffy 10 Mile Road Race in the Phoenix Park last Saturday and finished a great 23rd place in a time of 56.22.
Mary Daly finished first woman and 9th overall in the Lough Ree monster sprint triathlon in Athlone last Sunday. Mary’s finishing time was 1.09.18 with splits of sw 13.53, cy 32.43 and r 21.21. Adrian Martin was next in 31st position in a time of 1.15.42 ( sw 16.54, cy 34.40, r 21.37.) Tony McCormac was happy with his performance when finishing in 74th place in a 1.23.17 ( sw 18.58, cy 35.21, r 25.32 ).
Gowran 8.
The date for the running of the Gowran 8 has been changed to Tuesday 31st August at 7.00 pm sharp and starts from the Harriers grounds.

Tullamore Harriers extend its deepest sympathies to the Fitzgerald family from Cushina, Portarlington on the recent death of their parents Pat and Mary. Pat was a life vice president of Athletics Ireland and a former Leinster secretary.
