Grennan in Commanding Form in Winter League

Last week saw the running of two legs of the Winter League. Three teams were picked and every runner scores points for their team. The first leg took place last Thursday night and was run over 3000 metres on the tarmac lap. There was a huge turnout of sixty four runners which included a lot of new members and this led to two separate races been run to accommodate the big field. The fastest man on the night was Catch Grennan who led from start to finish to come home a clear winner in a time of 9.35. Mick Murphy ran a great race to take second place in 9.43 ahead of the ever improving Mark Servis who clocked 9.52. The fastest woman on the night was Pauline Curley in ninth place in a time of 10.29.

Winter League second Leg.
The second leg of the Winter League was held in Charleville Estate last Sunday morning in cold but dry sunny conditions. Forty four runners lined up for the race run over a distance of three miles. First leg winner Catch Grennan showed his intentions from the start and immediately went into the lead. Grennan continued to pull away from the field and came home a clear winner by a margin of two hundred metres from Richie Galvin in second place. Jody O’Reilly finished in third place just ahead of Mark Servis while Pauline Curley was the first woman home in fifth place.

The third and final leg of the Winter League will take place on December 2nd with a 3000metre race over the tarmac circuit.

Killarney 5k Road Series.
Jim Langan recorded his third victory in the over 65 category in the Killarney 5k road series last Saturday in a time of 22.43.

November 28th : Inter Counties Cross Country Championships, Derry.
December 2nd : Winter League Round 3 at 7.00pm.
December 19th : National Novice Cross Country Championships, Charleville Estate, Tullamore.
December 21st : Grand National 5k handicap road race at 7.00pm.

Training: Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, Sunday morning at 8.30am Except on a race day. New members always welcome.
With the dark evenings now upon us it is important to be seen on the roads so reflective gear must be worn while training on the roads
