European cup budapest
Eoin hannon and gordon kennedy competed for ireland at the european cup in budapest at the weekend. Eoin competed on saturday in the long jump. He opened his account with a jump of 7.35m. Unfortunately on his 2nd run in he suffered a hamstring injury and was forced to withdraw from the competition. His 1st round jump of 7.35m earned him 11th place overall in the competition.
Gordon ran in the 4x400m relay on sunday evening. He ran in the 1st leg of the relay in heat 1 and with a split time of 46.90 handed over the baton in the lead at the end of the leg. The irish team finished in 2nd place in the race in a time of 3.07.07 and in 6th place overall when the other heats were aggregated. The irish team finished in 8th place in the competition and to the delight of the athletes and management retained their league 1 status for this year.
Dublin county championships
A group of athletes from tullamore harriers travelled to santry to compete in the dublin county championships at the weekend. In ideal weather conditions there were several outstanding performances. Ger hensey gets better with age; he ran a new national masters record and a new pb of 23.33 in the heats of the 200m, an astonishing .15 sec inside the previous record. Fearghus hannon qualified for the final of the 200m and went on to finish 3rd in the final in a new pb of 22.17. Ray lennon qualified for the b final with a time of 23.88 and finished 3rd in that final in a time of 23.93. Ray delaney won his heat in a new pb of 24.76 and mick fleming finished 3rd in his heat in time of 25.97, his first time to break 26 sec as a master. |
