Harriers athletes earn International Selection
Last Sunday saw a group of our Master athletes traveled to Dublin to run in the Gerry Farnan crosscountry race which also doubles up as a trial to select the Irish team for the Home Country Internationals which take place on November 15th in Wales. And what a day it proved to be with several of our athletes gaining selection. First up were the Ladies who had to race over 3 miles and in the ladies over 35 age group Pauline Curley claimed victory. Liz Cuskelly finished in third place in the same race to book her place on the Irish team. This was a great achievement for Liz as she is only back competing in athletics for the last year after a long absence from the sport. In the O 45 section Ann Carroll showed she is back to form with a great run to finish third to also claim her place on the Irish team. Anne Marie Larkin McGlynn ran in the open race and finished in 13th place and along with Pauline Curley and Liz Cuskelly took Tullamore into third place in the team competion.
Next it was the men in action over a 5 mile course and here too they met with great success with Noel Kelly, Martin Carroll, John Todd and Jim Langan gaining selection on the Irish team. Noel Kelly had a great run to finish second in the mens over 35 age group. Adrian Curley who is improving with every race came home in Twelfth in this category. Martin Carroll booked his place on the Irish team by finishing fifth in the over 45 race. Johnny Feery finished eight in the over 50 section. John Todd and Jim Langan raced over 5 and 3 miles respectively with John finishing second over 55 and Jim Langan third over 65 and thereby gain selection on the Irish team and in doing so rounded off a memorable day for the Harriers.
