19th July - Schools Internationals
Hanlon takes silver medal in Schools International
Darragh Hanlon gave a marvellous performance to win the silver medal in the discus at the Schools International in Bedford on Saturday last. Competing against the top U-17 athletes from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales, Darragh produced a superb series of throws, culminating in a huge new PB of 49.61 meters. This throw also gained him the qualifying standard for next year’s European Youth Olympics in Finland. The highly rated Zane Dubiquinn from England won the event in 53.16 meters. Darragh has shown that he can be one of the top discus throwers of his age in Europe and a good winter’s training should see him exceed the fifty meter barrier next year. He may even do so shortly when he competes in the English AAA’s and the Celtic International in the coming weeks. Well done to Darragh and his coach, Dan Kennedy.
