Tullamore Harriers win Double Gold in National Relays.
Tullamore Harriers scored a notable double at the National Senior Relay championships held in Castleisland at the weekend when they won both the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays. The Harriers team of Alan Whelan, Gordon Kennedy, Fearghus Hannon and Eoin Hannon had a great run in the 4 x 100m where they had to fight all the way to the finish to overcome the determined challenge of Leevale to win gold in a time of 42.35 which is a new club record.
In the 4 x 400m relay Gordon Kennedy ran a strong first leg and Tullamore Harriers had established a commanding lead at the first change over. Fearghus, Eoin and Alan consolidated the lead for Tullamore to win by a convincing margin in a time of 3.22.71. This win confirms Tullamore Harriers as both indoor and outdoor 4 x 400m national champions for 2010.
AAI Games
The AAI games were held in Castle Island at the weekend in conjunction with the National Relays. A strong group of sprinters from Tullamore Harriers made the long trip worthwhile with excellent results. Gordon Kennedy had a great run in the 200m to win in an excellent time of 21.72, an improvement of .25 over his run in Irishtown the previous week. He was closely followed home by Eoin Hannon who ran a brilliant 21.95 in his first run over 200m.
Fearghus Hannon won the second 200m in a time of 22.02, almost 0.5 second inside his previous best for the distance. Alan Whelan ran 22.74, Ray Lennon 23.45, and Ray Delaney 24.61 for the 200, all personal bests for the distance. Ger Hensey clocked 23.40 which is a personal best for him as a master athlete. Unfortunately the wind readings were outside the permitted 2m/sec so they do not stand as PB’s, but never the less great running. Larry O Reilly was the exception, running an excellent new PB in the 200m of 23.06 with a wind reading of 1.1m/sec.
There were equally great runs by all in the 100m, but again the wind readings were outside the permitted 2m/sec. Gordon Kennedy and Eoin Hannon were both inside the 11sec mark for the second time in a week clocking 10.90 and 10.99 respectively. Fearghus Hannon ran 11.06, Alan Whelan ran 11.28, Larry O’Reilly 11.43, Ger Hensey 11.61, Ray Lennon 11.76 and Ray Delaney 12.25. Well done to all on a great weekend’s results for the Harriers.
