Track and Field Athletes Show Good Early Season Form
National Junior Indoors
Darragh Hanlon was the sole Tullamore representative at the National Junior indoors last weekend. He competed first in the shot where he threw a new PB in the 2nd round of 12.92, an improvement of 0.4m on his previous best. This was enough for Darragh to win the bronze medal. He then went on to compete in the 35lb weight for distance where he went one better, winning the silver medal with a new PB throw of 7.90m.
AAI Indoor Games
Several Tullamore athletes opened their 2010 season at the AAI indoor games in Nenagh at the weekend. Ger Hensey had a brilliant run in the 60m, winning his heat in a time of 7.40. This was Ger’s best run in years and equalled the M40 national record. He went on to win his heat in the 200m in a time of 24.47, again his fastest run for over 5 years. Eoin Hannon got his season off to a great start, winning the long jump with a best ever season opener of 7.18m. He went on to finish 5th in the final of the 60m in a time of 7.19. Alan Whelan, making his debut in the Harriers singlet, finished 2nd in his heat of the 200m in a time of 23.62. He went on to finish 6th in the final of the 60m in a time of 7.35. Well done to all the athletes on their performances and they bode well for the season ahead.
