Great Run by Harkin in Masters International
On Saturday November 13th there was some very competitive running around the Santry cross-country course in the British & Irish Masters Cross Country. Tullamore Harriers had two repesentatives on the Irish over 40 team, namely Cormac Troy and John Harkin.
In the mens over 40 race, run over a distance of 8000 metres Dundrum’s Peter Mathews, winner of Irish Senior Cross Country titles in 1994, 1998 and 2002, defeated some worthy opponents from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland over the soft underfoot conditions to win the in 26:57, some 36 seconds ahead of England’s John Herbert. John Harkin revelled in the soft conditions and had a fabulous run to finish second Irishman in a time of 28.56. Cormac Troy found the underfoot conditions not to his liking but battled gamely to finish as sixth man for the Irish team. Cormac recorded a time of 29.39. Ireland finished in third place in the team event behind England and Northern Ireland.

Jim Langan competed in the Killarney 5k road series and was the winner in the over 65 category in a time of 22.48.
Congratulations to Dan Kennedy on winning the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Athletics Ireland awards night in Dublin last Saturday night. Dan has and still does devote many hours to coaching the throwing events. Among the athletes Dan has coached in the past are Irish Olympic throwers, Terry McHugh and Nicky Sweeney.

December 19th : National Novice Cross Country Championships, Charleville Estate, Tullamore.
December 21st : Grand National 5k handicap road race at 7.00pm
Training: Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, Sunday morning at 8.30am Except on a race day. New members always welcome.
With the dark evenings now upon us it is important to be seen on the roads so reflective gear must be worn while training on the roads
