TWO RUNNER UP SPOTS FOR KENNEDY
With the Olympic dream over for the Irish 4x400 relay Gordon Kennedy continued his racing plans with two races last week against top class fields. On Tuesday he was in action at the Folksam Grand Prix in Sollentuna Sweden, and having led most of the way was just piped on the line by Nil De Oliveira (Brazil) 46.97 with Gordon recording 47.04. On Saturday evening at a meeting in Uden Holland Gordon ran 47.19 to take second place behind USA athlete Alwyn Myburgh winning in 46.90.

COUNTY TRACK & FIELD
The County Track & Field Championships were held last Thursday and despite all the recent rain it was a good dry evening for the event. A number of guest athletes took part, which helped increase numbers and the level of competition. Mary Walsh took three track gold medals while, Paddy O’Flaherty, Ray Delaney, Sean Sweeney, Mick Flemming, Tom Rafferty and Catch Grennan all completed doubles. John Donegan ran a fast 3k time of 9.26 and then ran 4.43 for 1,500 with Babu Mathew throwing 11.41 metres in the shot.

NEWS ROUND UP
The first of the Adidas road race series took place last Saturday with a five mile in the Phoenix Park. Declan Fahey finished 11th overall and 4th M35 in 26.08 with Pauline Curley 50th overall, 2nd lady and 1st F35 in 28.53. Liz Cuskelly had a great run to finish 68th overall, 4th lady and 2nd F35 in 29.41. This was a very impressive run by Liz as she finished ahead of some very experienced senior ladies.

The Ironman Austria Triathlon took place on Sunday in Klagenfurt which is south of Vienna, between Italy and Slovenia. Barry Lambe was among the 2,200 competitors in warm sunny conditions and finished in 720th place in a time of 10.35.42 with splits of 3.8k swim 1.14.14, 180k bike 5.36.36 followed by 3.36.32 for the run over the marathon distance.

Mary Daly made the trip to Ballina last Saturday for the Salmon Run Sprint Triathlon and was 1st lady, 29th overall in a time of 1.08.17 with splits of 9.01,34.30 and 21.57.

Training : Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, Sunday morning at 8.30am (except on a race day) all are welcome.
