Tullamore Masters Win National Medals
Tullamore had two master mens teams competing in the National Road Relays held in Raheny last Sunday. This is a prestigious and hugely competitive event that attracts teams from all over the country. The Harriers over 50 team of Johnny Feery, Martin Carroll and Pat Conlon put in a great combined effort to win National gold medals in their event.
Johnny Feery was first off to run in the one mile leg and he had a super run in 5.11 to establish a good lead before passing on to Martin Carroll who extended the lead in his two mile leg with a 11.11 clocking. Pat Conlon ran a strong last leg of one mile in 5.37 comfortably holding off the challenge of the North Eastern runners club who finished in second place with last years winners Tallaght AC third.
The over 35 mens team were led off by John Donegan in the one mile leg and he had a great run to come home in eight place in 5.04 but more importantly well in contention with the leaders. Noel Kelly ran 10.06 for his two mile leg and brought the Harriers up into fifth place before handing over to Catch Grennan who quickly set about making up ground on the leaders. Catch ran the fastest time of the day with a 4.44 clocking to move up to second place just three seconds adrift of the winners Raheny Shamrocks.
Grennan Wins Spring League 5k
The second leg of the winter league was run off on Tuesday of last week. Having been called off the previous week due to snow, the 5k event this time was run in ideal conditions. The race consisted of eight laps of the tarmac circuit and it was the inform Catch Grennan who went into the lead followed by John Harkin, John Donegan and Johnny Feery. Grennan continued to increase his lead all the way and came home a convincing winner in a time of 16.22. John Donegan had a great run to overhaul John Harkin to finish second with Harkin taking third. Johnny Feery also ran well to finish fourth in a fast 17.01. Liz Cuskelly was first lady to finish in a time of 18.08.

Race Roundup
On Saturday last John Todd was in action in the BHAA 4 mile road race in St Anne’s Park, Raheny. In ideal conditions on a flat course John was 57th overall and 1st over 55 in a time of 24.05.
Larry Rigney competed in two marathons in Connemara last weekend on a scenic but very challenging hilly course. On Saturday Larry completed the course in a time of 4.30. The next morning Larry lined up at the start again and this time he improved on the previous day to finish in a time of 4.26.40.This was Larry’s 82nd and 83rd marathon to complete.
Vinny Conlon competed in the Half Marathon and finished in 39th place in a time of 1.33.07.
Pauline Curley had a busy Easter weekend when on Saturday she won the Knockbeg 1 Mile Classic road race in a time of 5.15. The next day, Easter Sunday Pauline finished in second place in the Waterford 4 mile road race in a time of 22.30. The race was won by Kiera Durkin from Skerries AC in a course record 21.57. Pauline Lambe made it a good day for Tullamore by finishing in third place in a time of 23.38.
Jim Langan competed in the Killarney 5 mile road race and won the over 65 category in a good time of 36.25. Jim also ran in the Boherbue to Kiskeam 4 mile road race where he finished 42nd overall and 3rd in the over 60 section with a time of 28.50.
Sprinter Mick Fleming is currently in South Africa and he recently competed over 100 metres where he recorded his best time as a master athlete of 12.79 seconds.
3K /5K Beginners Night
This week as part of our on-going 3k fun runs we are holding a 5k fun run for those of you who are ready for a slightly bigger challenge.
The two runs will be run at the same time, with officials recording your times as usual.
The fun runs have been an overwhelming success so far and we want to thank everyone who attended each week. Everybody's times have improved significantly, so it goes to show that a little effort goes a long way....
We look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday evening and don't forget to bring some of your friends with you.
