Easy Win for Grennan in Emo

The annual Peter Devery Memorial challenge between Tullamore Harriers and Ballyfin Athletic took place in the grounds of Emo House. A welcome addition this year was the participation of athletes from St Michael’s club in Portarlington. The event is run over two legs with the second leg fixed for this coming Sunday in Charleville Estate.

On a lovely spring morning the race was run over three laps of a dry cross country course in ideal conditions. Catch Grennan went into an early lead with no one prepared to match his fast early pace. Behind Grennan a group of three consisting of Richie Galvin, Robaird Miller and Eddie Garry were engaged in a battle for second place. Grennan continued to stetch his lead and came home a clear winner by a margin of one hundred and twenty metres from second placed Richie Galvin who ran very strong to hold off the challenge of Ballyfin’s Robaird Miller with Eddie Garry occupying fourth place. Brendan Abbott maintained his recent good form to take fifth place just ahead of Pauline Curley who was the first woman to finish in sixth place.
