Offaly Novice Titles for Galvin and Herlihy

The first racing of the new cross country season kicked off with the staging of the Offaly Masters and Novice Cross Country championships in Charleville Estate Tullamore last Sunday. On a lovely sunny morning there was good racing in all the categories.

The mens novice race was run over 6k and Ger Lynam went into an early lead. He was caught however by Richie Galvin who went on to win by a margin of one hundred metres from Lynam with Glen Finlay running a great race to come home in third place.

The womens 3k novice race produced an exciting three way battle with Evelyn Herlihy claiming the title by eight seconds from Marlena Sznicer with Michelle Mullaney taking the bronze a further thirteen seconds behind.

The masters men over 6k was won in good style by Cormac Troy who eventually broke the resistance of John Donegan with Brendan Abbot taking third.
