INTER VARSITIES ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Tullamore Harriers had two athletes taking part in the University Athletic Championships last weekend. Eoin Hannon, representing Dublin City University, competed in the long jump. He continued the good form he showed in the Indoor Championships by winning the gold medal with a brilliant best jump of 7.40m. Eoin also jumped 7.01, 7.21 in the course of the competition and as he was jumping off a shortened run up it augers well for when the senior season gets into full swing.
Alan Whelan, representing University of Limerick, competed in the 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relay. The team qualified easily for the final of the 4 x 100m and in that final Alan ran a brilliant first leg to give UL a commanding lead and they went on to win gold, equalling the championship record in the process. He then went on to run the third leg of the 4 x 400m relay and again ran a brilliant leg to bring his team from 4th to 2nd at the change over and they went on to again win giving Alan his 2nd gold medal of the weekend
